Transfer latest from Nottingham Forest boss as Reds delight in cup win

Nottingham Forest are through to the fourth round in the FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Cardiff City at the City Ground.

Lyle Taylor's early strike proved to be the difference as he finished off a Gaetan Bong cross with a well-struck volley.

Victory made it six unbeaten in all competitions for Chris Hughton's side, with back-to-back clean-sheets.

Here's how Matt Davies rated the Reds in the third round tie.

Transfer business

Chris Hughton says it is unlikely Nottingham Forest will do further business in the next week but they "really want" to do more in the January transfer window.

Anthony Knockaert will remain on loan for the rest of the season from Fulham, while Nicholas Ioannou has left the club to join Aris on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Forest are keen to add more creativity to their squad, but Hughton feels some patience might be needed.

"I don't know. If you to push me I'd say no, but you just don't know," he told BBC Radio Nottingham when asked if there would be more announcements in the next week.

Boss' verdict

Chris Hughton hailed Nottingham Forest's defensive resolve after they knocked Cardiff City out of the FA Cup.

Lyle Taylor's third minute goal settled the third round tie at the City Ground, with Forest edging the first half.

They were on the back foot throughout in the second, but protected Jordan Smith's goal well, with the stand-in keeper doing his job when called upon.

That resilience pleased Hughton, who was delighted with his back four.

Opposition view

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris was left fielding questions about his future after Nottingham Forest dumped his team out of the FA Cup.

The Reds made it six unbeaten in all competitions as they progressed to the fourth round with a 1-0 win, thanks to Lyle Taylor’s early strike.

For their opponents, it was a fourth straight defeat - leaving manager Harris under pressure.

Cheeky 'like'

Nottingham Forest made it six unbeaten in all competitions as they progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup, seeing off Cardiff City 1-0.

It was a hard-fought victory for the Reds, as they battled to secure successive wins for the second time under Chris Hughton - registering a third clean-sheet in four games at the same time.

Joe Worrall was at the heart of the performance, putting in another solid display at centre-back, alongside Scott McKenna.

And for the boyhood Forest fan, results from elsewhere no doubt added to what was already an enjoyable afternoon.
