DONE DEAL! Fulham sign Markovic from Liverpool
One more? Why not! Fulham didn’t get an extra defender, but they have got Lazar Markovic on a free until the end of the season. That came from nowhere!

DONE DEAL! Batshuayi joins Palace on loan
Dominic Fifield tells us that the deal is done – Michy Batshuayi has joined Crystal Palace on loan from Chelsea! That’s quite the signing for Palace, done very late in the day.
Our friends at GFFN reporting that Sky are bang wrong about Youssouf Sabaly:
Sky Sports completely wrong on Youssouf Sabaly x Fulham - player has no release clause, any deal was dependent on Bordeaux signing a replacement & they didn’t.

Sky are reporting that the Michy Batshuayi deal is done. Just awaiting official confirmation now...
Or maybe not!
Remember that mysterious second deal sheet? Well, Paul Joyce of the Times is reporting it’s from Fulham – for Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic, on a permanent deal! Those crazy Cottagers...

No more signings for Fulham
Fulham signed Håvard Nordtveit, but couldn’t add a second defensive signing today. The Premier League strugglers were chasing Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Youssouf Sabaly, but Slavia Prague have confirmed Ngadeu is staying. Sabaly’s case is even stranger – they paid his release clause, completed a medical and then called Bordeaux to complete the move. The Ligue 1 side, in a novel move, simply didn’t answer the phone – and the deal is off!
Deadline day: the big moves
We’re still waiting on confirmation of Batshuayi’s loan move to Crystal Palace – and a Fulham deal still shrouded in mystery – but here are the biggest moves so far today:
- Newcastle have signed Miguel Almirón for a club-record £21m fee and Antonio Barreca on loan
- Youri Tielemans has joined Leicester on loan, with Adrien Silva heading to Monaco
- Peter Crouch is back in the Premier League, moving to Burnley with Sam Vokes going to Stoke
- Wolves have spent £18m to make Jonny Otto’s loan move from Atlético Madrid permanent
- Emile Smith Rowe, Reece Oxford and Barnet’s Ben Wilmot have all sealed loans in Europe
- Anthony Martial has signed a new contract at Manchester United
The Scottish transfer window is still open for another 10 minutes. Rangers have made a late move, tying up a January transfer for Dundee’s Glen Kamara, who was set for Ibrox this summer.
A couple of last-minute deals from Spain: Rayo Vallecano have signed Franco di Santo from Schalke, while Léganes have snaffled Mexican centre-back Diego Reyes from Fenerbahce.
You can catch up with all the deadline-day deals – and there have been plenty – from around Europe here:

A quick Swansea-related update from Stuart James:
So, in summary (and, btw, WTF):
— Stuart James (@StuartJamesGNM) January 31, 2019
Dan James's move from Swansea to Leeds has collapsed.
Leroy Fer is also staying at Swansea.
Tom Carroll has joined Aston Villa from Swansea.
Jefferson Montero has joined WBA from Swansea.
All very curious; Swansea reportedly pulled the plug on the Dan James and Leroy Fer moves late on, but allowed Tom Carroll to join Villa instead of Fer. Both he and Dan James had passed medicals and were ready to sign for new clubs.
North o’ the border, Hibs may be without a manager but they’ve made a couple of useful signings today. Darnell Johnson joins from Leicester, striker Marc McNulty arrives from Reading and former Newcastle midfielder Gaël Bigirimana has moved from Motherwell. All on loan, naturally.
“Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui or Youssouf Sabaly? I hope for commentators’ sake it’s the latter” honks Neill McGowan.
Eye-watering fee latest: Sunderland have reportedly offered Wigan £3m for Will Grigg, after their last offer, of around £1.25m, was turned down. Wigan have said thanks very much, and Grigg is heading to Wearside.

Two deal sheets have been filed with the Premier League – one for Michy Batshuayi, and the other, we presume, from Fulham. It looked like their last-ditch signing would be Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui – but Sky are reporting it is in fact Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly.
Batshuayi closing on Crystal Palace move
The deal sheet was submitted by Crystal Palace and Chelsea ahead of the 11pm cut off as the clubs seek to confirm Michy Batshuayi’s loan move to Selhurst Park.
The submission technically grants the clubs a further two hours to secure the deal, but the hope is confirmation will come fairly swiftly that a deal has been done.
Yannick Bolasie joins Anderlecht on loan
Everton have ushered Yannick Bolasie out of the door, and he’ll spend the rest of the season at Anderlecht. Ending his Aston Villa loan didn’t really work out, then.

The deal sheet is in for Michy Batshuayi, according to Sky. “Batman Returns!” is the cry from their roving reporter, which doesn’t work because *pushes glasses up the bridge of my nose* he’s not played for Crystal Palace before.
On oldest outfield signings, Vandermars suggests Kevin Phillips to Crystal Palace. Big Kev was five days past his 40th birthday when he joined the newly promoted Eagles permanently in 2013.

DONE DEAL! Celtic sign Dortmund's Jeremy Toljan on loan
Celtic get their man with 15 minutes or so until the transfer deadline. Dortmund and Germany U21 right-back Jeremy Toljan joins on loan for the rest of the season.
“This is an exciting move for me and I’m delighted to be joining a club like Celtic, which has a great reputation throughout Europe,” Toljan said. “I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and working with the manager, and I’ll be doing everything I can to help the team to be successful in the remainder of this season.”

Fulham set to sign Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui
Something of a scoop here courtesy of reader Milan Sverepa. Slavia Prague’s chairman appears to have accepted that Cameroon defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui will sign for Fulham. Top work, Milan; Paul Merson will be delighted.

Ngadeu to Fulham (nearly) confirmed by Slavia chairman
“Is Peter Crouch [38 yesterday] the oldest outfield signing in top flight football?” asks Elliot Carr-Barnsley. “Can’t think of too many older”. I’m throwing this one over to you, the reader.
Wolves outgoings! Nuno Espírito Santo has flung the doors open at Molineux, allowing Dominic Iorfa to join Sheffield Wednesday permanently, with Connor Ronan, Jack Ruddy and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh heading out on loan.
Remember Alen Halilovic? The Croatian midfielder was considered one of Europe’s hottest prospects when he joined Barcelona in 2014. Now 22, he’s leaving Milan to join Standard Liège on loan. Let’s hope he gets the game time he hasn’t been granted at the San Siro.
Rumours swirling that Fulham are trying to get one more signing over the line by 11pm. In League One news, proof that persistence pays off – Sunderland have had a sixth bid for Will Grigg accepted by Wigan!
Plenty of speculation that Idrissa Gueyé is extremely unhappy that Everton have rejected a second bid. Given opportunity to stoke that particular fire, Sam Allardyce grabs his can of petrol, suggesting that £26m was plenty for a player who cost them £7m, and they could use the cash to bring in a striker after “massive overspending” in the summer. Not that he’s bitter.
Michy Batshuayi to Crystal Palace is not a done deal yet, with complex negotiations ongoing with Valencia as well as Chelsea. But the loan fee and wages for the Belgian forward are not an issue.
DONE DEAL! Fulham sign Nordtveit on loan
The Cottagers just can’t resist a last-minute deal, and have brought in Norwegian utility man Håvard Nordtveit on loan from Hoffenheim. Nordtveit had a pretty forgettable spell at West Ham, but says he’s “really happy to have the opportunity to come back to the Premier League”.

Palace aim to close Batshuayi loan deal
Crystal Palace officials are at Chelsea’s offices, working on a last-ditch loan deal for Michy Batshuayi. Roy Hodgson’s side have room in their squad for a loan player from another top-flight team, and decided to make a move late in the day. It’s now a question of whether everything can be agreed with Chelsea in time.
West Brom are working to complete a loan move for Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy before the deadline. The Baggies will reportedly cover all of Murphy’s wages as they look to strengthen their squad for an automatic promotion push.
Janssen set to stay at Spurs
Poor Vincent Janssen. The Spurs striker has been linked with a loan move to various clubs, including Real Betis and Schalke but right now, there is no longer anything on the table for him.
So unless an interested club comes out of the woodwork in the next 90 minutes, he is set to stay! Remember, Mauricio Pochettino could not have made it clearer that Janssen is not in his plans.
Batshuayi heading to Crystal Palace?
As snow falls at Stamford Bridge, Kaveh Solhekol drops a bombshell – Michy Batshuayi has agreed terms not with Tottenham, but with Crystal Palace! Crikey.
Over on US TV, Robbie Earle has just said Miguel Almirón could be “a poor man’s David Ginola” for Newcastle. Make of that what you will.
That was fun while it lasted. So what’s left to be settled? Well, Michy Batshuayi is still available, as is Vincent Janssen. Trouble is, nobody seems that keen on signing them - and Chelsea have reportedly quoted Tottenham an £8m loan fee for Batshuayi. That’s £1m for each of his Premier League goals.
Elsewhere, Yannick Bolasie is set to rubber-stamp a loan move to Anderlecht, Andy King is joining Derby, and Fulham are chasing Havard Nordtveit, for some reason. Birmingham striker Che Adams has been in the sights of several Premier League clubs today, but it looks like he’s staying at St Andrew’s.

Here’s a roundup of some of today’s biggest deals, topped by Leicester’s signing of Youri Tielemans:
Kudos to League One high-flyers Luton Town, who have announced three signings in one tweet:
3⃣ NEW SIGNINGS | The Town have pulled of a tremendous transfer deadline day Hat-trick by signing Alex Baptiste from @QPR, Jason Cummings from @NFFC and Aaron Connolly from @OfficialBHAFC - all on loan until the end of the season! #COYH

Two Everton academy graduates are on the move. Callum Connolly has joined Bolton on loan until the end of the season after his loan deal with Wigan Athletic was cancelled while Antony Evans is off to Blackpool, also on loan until the end of the campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday are still busy, as incoming manager Steve Bruce looks to seal three loan signings before the window closes. The Owls are swooping for Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa, and Newcastle duo Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar.
“Peter Crouch’s Burnley will host Man City on 27 April,” says Peter Oh. “Perhaps his most important goal for Liverpool is yet to come?”
Barring any big surprises, it looks like the big-money deals this window have been and gone. With loans very much the order of the day, there have only been six deals over £20m – excluding those that won’t be made official until the summer. Two of them were made by Milan, and one by Newcastle...
Our totaliser stands at £562.9m – last January, it reached £817.1m. What it all means, I don’t know, but it’s quite a drop.
Updated
So, it’s all gone a little quiet with the Tielemans deal done, but Sky are doing their best to keep interest up. They reckon Michy Batshuayi is pushing for a move to Spurs, but Chelsea are unsurprisingly not that keen to strengthen top-four rivals. They also say Maxi Gómez could still complete his move to West Ham from Celta, although he wouldn’t arrive until the summer either way.
It’s been a busy day at Celtic, who have signed American defensive duo Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez, plus Ukrainian winger Maryan Shved, all of whom will be loaned out until the summer.
Brendan Rodgers is also in the market for a right-back, and is expected to sign Dortmund’s Jeremy Toljan before the window closes.
“I had absolutely NO idea that Lucas Piazon was still on Chelsea’s books,” says Speakeasy Ray. “I saw him play on their US tour ages ago as the next bright young thing. What is that, 6 or 7 seasons on loan now?”
Pretty much – the Brazilian has had loan spells at Málaga, Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt, Reading, Fulham, and now Chievo. Not quite at Tomas Kalas’ level yet, but getting there.
Euro news! Turkey, to be precise. Shinji Kagawa has completed a loan move from Borussia Dortmund to Besiktas, and Kostas Mitroglou has joined Galatasaray on loan from Marseille. Both perfect players for West Ham to vastly overspend on. What’s going on?
What can Leicester expect from Tielemans? He was a hot prospect as a teenage at Anderlecht, and featured in our Next Generation list back in 2014. With admirers including Jürgen Klopp and José Mourinho, the holding midfielder looked a bargain when he joined Monaco for £21.6m in 2017 – but he hasn’t quite kicked on. Still, he could flourish in the Premier League, in a team with plenty of young talent.
That move also means that Adrien Silva is heading to Monaco, joining the likes of Cesc Fàbregas, Gelson Martins and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou in a busy window for them.
Silva was signed by Leicester for £22m in August 2017, but couldn’t play for four months because his registration was 14 seconds late. When he was available, he managed just 14 Premier League appearances. An unmitigated disaster, though it wasn’t all Silva’s fault.

A couple of bits and bobs from top-six clubs (don’t get excited): Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira is off on loan to Kortrijk in Belgium, and Spurs midfielder Anthony Georgiou is going to Levante, also on loan.
On Barcelona’s move for Emerson, thanks to Victor Rodrigues for the extra info – and footage of a lovely goal from the Brazilian full-back:

Swansea suits are breathing a big sigh of relief after getting Wilfried Bony’s £120,000-a-week wages off their books. The Ivorian has joined Qatari club Al-Arabi on loan.
Peter Crouch has been chatting to Burnley’s official website:
“I still want to achieve things. I want to get more games and I would love to add to the 100 Premier League goals. For me it’s a great place to be and I’m really excited to get started.
“My game has probably changed a little bit. I’m not 25. But my attributes haven’t waned; I never really had blistering pace. I know I can impact games at this level. I scored goals last season in the Premier League and I know I will do the same again if given the opportunity.
“I feel like the older I get, the more hungry I get,” the 38-year-old added. “I want to be involved in every single game. I have the will to succeed and hopefully prove people wrong.”
Your thoughts
Andy King set to join Derby on loan
Andy King is joining Derby County on loan until the end of the season. The Wales international was out of favour at Leicester – he was left out of Claude Puel’s 25-man Premier League squad at the start of the season – and a number of Championship clubs were interested in signing him, including Swansea and Wigan. King, however, has opted for a move to Derby, where Frank Lampard will hope that the midfielder’s experience can help maintain their promotion push.
The Italian window has now closed, with last-second deals including Chievo’s loan move for Chelsea’s Lucas Piazon, and former Spurs midfielder Sandro landing at Udinese. Still waiting on confirmation that Watford midfield Ben Wilmot is off to the Zebrette, too.
DONE DEAL! Stoke sign Sam Vokes
And moments later, Stoke confirm the arrival of Sam Vokes from Burnley. It’s a part-exchange deal, with Stoke handing over around £7m plus Crouch for the Welsh centre-forward. Who got the better end of that deal? Let me know what you think.

So, is Emerson any good? I’m more than happy for someone to enlighten me.
DONE DEAL! Barça sign Brazilian full-back Emerson
Barcelona have had a busy month, with Frenkie De Jong signing on from July and both Jeison Murillo and Kevin-Prince Boateng arriving on loan. Now they’ve agreed a €12m deal for the Atletico Mineiro full back Emerson, who will join the Catalan club in the summer after a loan spell at Real Betis.

Two new youth signings at Brighton
Joining Mlakar on the south coast is Romanian midfielder Tudor Biluta, who will arrive in the summer. Brighton do like a cut-price youth player; they’ve also brought in Argentina’s Alexis Mac Allister in this window. And yes, there is a gap. I don’t like it either.
Brighton have made a signing – Jan Mlakar has joined from Slovenian heavyweights Maribor. The 20-year-old striker will be loaned back for the rest of the season before joining this summer.
Some lower-league transfer news, and Oldham have brought in two strikers on loan from Premier League teams. They are Man Utd’s Zack Dearnley and West Ham’s Oladapo Afolayan. Their arrival could be bad news for another Latics forward, Gevaro Nepomuceno, a winger who plays internationally for ... Curacao!

This is interesting:
@niallmcveigh China is still a popular destination for premier league players. But this transfer window sees a new trend: Chinese clubs are chasing every possible naturalised players. Yennaris to Beijing, Browning to Guangzhou. More to come.
— Wangzy (@andreywang) January 31, 2019
Nico Yennaris joined Beijing Gouan earlier today from Brentford, and is thought to be the first foreign player given naturalised citizenship in order to play in China. He qualified through his mother’s grandparents, and will count as a homegrown player in Beijing’s squad.
Tottenham update: They’re not buying anyone, obviously. But Vincent Janssen might well be staying – Real Betis have pulled out of a loan move, so the Dutchman might be joining Michy Batshuayi in staying stuck on the sidelines. Both men are waiting on West Ham to rescue them, Gollivan’s wallet hands twitching furiously as the window winds down.
A couple of English players who may unexpectedly be moving to Italy, with Udinese chasing defender Ben Wilmot from sister club Watford, and Derby midfielder Tom Huddlestone. One Englishman who doesn’t fancy it abroad is Gary Cahill – he’s reportedly turned down offers from Monaco and Juventus in this window.
Fulham news: Claudio Ranieri has been chasing a new defender all day, but moves for Slavia Prague’s Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly have stalled.
Instead, they’re turning to Havard Nordtveit to ease their defensive woes – judging by his previous spell at West Ham, that’s a bad call.
Sky have treated us to a spectacularly jarring interview with their Italian correspondent, unable to hear very well and answering the question before last in the Two Ronnies style. DONE DEAL! Reece Oxford joins Augsburg on loan
West Ham have confirmed that Reece Oxford has joined Augsburg on loan. No word from them on whether there is an option for a permanent deal in the summer. Incidentally, the Bundesliga side have also appointed Jens Lehmann as their new assistant coach.

The German window shutting also means that Chelsea have held onto Callum Hudson-Odoi. As Eni Aluko writes, letting him go with a buy-back option would have made more sense than keeping him on the bench.
Augsburg have an option to make Reece Oxford’s loan move from West Ham permanent in the summer. The defender’s stay in Germany could be a long one.
An interesting Championship loan move here: Nottingham Forest have picked up Léo Bonatini from Wolves. The Brazilian fired 12 goals last season to help Wolves win promotion, but has struggled in the Premier League.
Today’s biggest deal is still Miguel Almirón’s club-record move to Newcastle. Here’s what fans can expect from the Paraguayan playmaker who’s been tearing it up in MLS:
The German transfer window is shut – which may mean it’s curtains for Vincent Janssen’s proposed loan move to Schalke. Emile Smith-Rowe’s loan to RB Leipzig is still on, though – we’re just awaiting official confirmation.
Thanks Jacob. Here we go then, into the home straight. Only six hours to go! A quick Michy Batshuayi update: Everton are very much out, and the Belgian’s wage demands are putting off other suitors. So he may stay at Valencia, who don’t want him, until the summer. Poor Michy!
It’s time for me to leave you in the capable hands of Niall McVeigh. You can email him on niall.mcveigh@theguardian.com.

Nothing else to come at Arsenal, by the sounds of things - apart from the confirmation of Emile Smith Rowe’s loan to RB Leipzig. As you were.
Sky are reporting that Youri Tielemans has arrived at the King Power Stadium. Leicester are closing in on a loan deal for the Monaco midfielder.
Hot off the wires: Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has been banned from all football-related activity for four months, three of which are suspended, after accepting a charge of misconduct in relation to betting, the Football
Association has announced.
Away from transfer news, Wilfried Zaha has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following his reaction to his red card against Southampton on Wednesday night. The Crystal Palace forward was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession, the second for apparently sarcastically clapping referee Andre Marriner. The FA said in a statement: “Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha has been charged following the game against Southampton yesterday.”
It’s quiet out there. Nothing is happening, people. Go to bed.

Here’s what Rafa Benitez has to say about the arrival of Miguel Almiron at Newcastle.
We were following Miguel Almiron for a while and we saw a player with some pace in attack, who can play behind the striker. We have someone who can score goals and give assists. We know that MLS is a different challenge to the Premier League, but he has the potential to do what we are expecting and what we need.
From talking to the lad, you can tell that he is really focused and wants to do well. He wants to be successful and he wants to help the team, to score goals and give assists if it is possible. His impact in MLS has been really good - he’s been one of the best players this year - and hopefully he can give us more competition and more quality in the final third. I am pleased that the hard work behind the scenes has ended positively and I thank everyone for their efforts.”
Have you noticed that nothing happens on deadline day any more? Cancel it. It’s run its course.
Anderlecht want Everton’s Yannick Bolasie on loan for the remainder of the season, with the winger having been told by Marco Silva that his plans to force his way back into favour at Goodison Park are highly optimistic at best. Bolasie cancelled his season long loan with Aston Villa earlier this month, much to Everton’s surprise, and his parent club will not stand in the way of another temporary exit for the £70,000-a-week player.
DONE DEAL KLAXON! Almirón joins Newcastle
Newcastle have broken their transfer record to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United. The Paraguayan forward has joined for a record fee - it’s said to be in the region of £21.5m. Rio Ferdinand will be feeling pretty smug right now.

Denis Suarez has been getting his chat on after joining Arsenal on loan. He’s very happy to be playing for Unai Emery again.
I’ve come here to play as much as possible and try to help the team qualify for the Champions League. I’d like to win the Europa League with Arsenal too - why not? It’s a trophy I won under Unai Emery at Sevilla and I’d love to win it again here.
I have a very good relationship with him. I spent a year with him at Sevilla when we won the Europa League. I think he’s a very demanding coach and one of the best coaches in the world right now - I’ve been saying that for a while.
I’m really happy to have the chance to work with him again and I hope that the rest of the season is successful for me and the club. I think he’s a great coach. That (his loan to Sevilla) was my first year playing football at the elite level - my first year in the top division. I improved a lot as a player thanks to him. He really helped me. I think he was a big part of the reason I was able to go back to Barcelona after leaving on loan.”
As for where Michy Batshuayi might end up, word is West Ham aren’t confident of convincing the Chelsea striker to join them on loan. The Belgian also has an offer from Real Betis, who are also interested in West Ham’s Lucas Perez, who will be allowed to leave for the right fee. West Ham are also willing to let Reece Oxford leave this month; the youngster looks set to move to Germany. Augsburg are the frontrunners. Exciting, right?

Speaking of Hudson-Odoi, his potential move to Germany (speculation around which has now merely been postponed for the summer, rather than disappeared completely) is the subject of Eni Aluko’s column this week...
Anthony Martial isn’t the only young tyro who has signed a new contract: Brighton youngster Aaron Connolly has agreed one too, keeping him at the club until June 2022.
Niko Kovac, Bayern Munich head honcho, has said at a press conference that “nothing more is happening” in terms of transfers for them. So, from a very Anglo-centric point of view, that means no further late bids for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The only way Mesut Özil will leave Arsenal is if it is on a permanent deal and that is not going to happen today. PSG made an offer and there were loan deals on the table but Özil is staying
Absolutely piping hot on the heels of that Kagawa nugget, our man in Turkey Emre Sarigul reports that the Japanese tippy-tapper has arrived in Istanbul ahead of going to Besiktas.
A little update on Shinji Kagawa: according to Hannover manager Horst Heldt, they have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund, but he also has the option of going to Besiktas. Kagawa, that is. Not Heldt. We assume.
New deal for Martial
I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me to take my game to the next level. This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.

With just under 10 hours of the transfer window remaining Everton’s position on Idrissa Gana Gueye is the same as it has been all month - he will not be sold. PSG’s £21.5m bid of last week was rejected and there has been no other offer. There may be a few young players heading out on loan today but Everton do not expect any significant departures or arrivals, and that includes Michy Batshuayi.
A little break from transfer business with some recommended reading: a piece with Emma Lipman, who made her debut for Coventry City aged just 14 and is now playing for Roma...

Leeds United will sign Dan James from Swansea later today, more than likely on loan. To say that the transfer will go down badly with Swansea fans is an understatement. James only broke into the first team this season and the 21-year-old was seen as a key part of Graham Potter’s rebuild. It is understood that Leeds are proposing a loan deal that would see them pay about £1.5m up front and a further £8.5m should they win promotion to the Premier League. If they fail to go up, James would return to Swansea. The second scenario has got the potential to be a mess. Then again, the whole situation is a mess. Leeds do not have the financial wherewithal to complete a permanent move for James, who has made it clear to Potter and Swansea’s owners that he wants to go to Elland Road.
In other news from the Liberty Stadium, Jefferson Montero is set to join West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season. Montero came off the bench to help set up two of Swansea’s three goals against Birmingham in midweek (James scored the first). Swansea are also set to sanction the departure of Leroy Fer, their captain, to Lille. Fer is out of contract in the summer.
Who’d be a Swansea fan, eh?
Yannick Carrasco is going nowhere. Not to Arsenal and not to Milan. The Belgian is staying at Dalian Yifang. Ivan Perisic is also staying at Inter. It’s over.

While we’re in Scotland (well, Owen Paul’s from Glasgow), it’s one out, two in (and counting) at Dundee … Ryan Inniss has returned to parent club Crystal Palace after a loan spell, while the Scottish club have brought in midfielder Ethan Robson from Sunderland and Australia international defender Ryan McGowan from Bradford, both on temporary deals.
Nick is now back in the seat to take you through the afternoon’s mayhem. Toodles.

Ralph Hasenhüttl is still saying nowt about Che Adams, but maybe isn’t quite as done with business as he earlier insinuated:
On the last day there are always a few options that suddenly pop up and it show us that is maybe a chance to get an interesting player,” he said.
“We are still busy and the last day is a day where everyone stops with the poker and then the cards come on the table and it’s not about wasting time then. It can happen that we do something today. Let’s have a look.”
Message ends. Tenuous “wasting time”-based earworm begins …

Manchester City sign Ante Palaversa
Hello window-twitchers. And straight in with a done deal for Manchester City, as we trailed two weeks ago, who have added to their flock of younglings. This from the Press Association …
Manchester City have signed teenager Ante Palaversa from Hajduk Split, with the midfielder immediately rejoining the Croatian side on loan. The 18-year-old completed a medical in Manchester this week and has moved for a reported fee of £7m.
Hajduk have announced Palaversa will return to them on loan until the end of the 2019-20 season, although City can recall him next January.
The Croatia Under-19 international is happy to stay with his boyhood club ahead of linking up with “one of the biggest clubs in the world”.
“Thanks to Manchester City for the trust,” he told Hajduk’s website. “There is still a lot of work ahead of me. I have not yet shown all I can and I hope to play for Hajduk to justify the great trust I have received from England’s champions.”

Further to that update from Jacob about Batshuayi...
Chelsea have agreed terms with West Ham and Real Betis over loan deal for Michy Batshuayi. Barring a late bid from Everton, player will decide where to go soon
— Ed Aarons (@ed_aarons) January 31, 2019
The Chelsea first-team squad is due back at Cobham this afternoon and will spend further time with Maurizio Sarri digesting last night’s hideous capitulation at Bournemouth. Transfers feel a bit of an unwelcome distraction in the circumstances, not least because any movement today is likely to be from fringe players departing the club. Sarri had hoped to secure a replacement for the departed Cesc Fabregas, but the hierarchy are anxious not to block the pathway into the first-team for the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Ethan Ampadu.
Gary Cahill and Danny Drinkwater are the most high-profile of those potential exits, though it does seem vaguely ridiculous that neither former England international has secured his departure before deadline day. Cahill has not played for the first-team since an Europa League tie in late November, and had been informed he could see out the final six months of his deal on loan – if the right arrangement surfaced – before departing Stamford Bridge on a free transfer in the summer. Fulham had hoped to secure him, but were not prepared to match his current wage package, worth around £120,000-a-week.
Drinkwater has not featured since the Community Shield, but has no future at Chelsea under Sarri. Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham would be a fine option for the former Leicester City title winner, too, but whether the club 19th in the division have the funds to complete a permanent deal remain to be seen. Fulham already have two loan players from rival Premier League clubs in Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Calum Chambers, from Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.
Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a late move for Willian, though Chelsea would not want to lose the Brazilian.

West Ham are in the market for a loan striker, with Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi a possibility. There’s no problems with agreeing a deal with Chelsea - the issue is convincing Batshuayi to come in on loan. If that’s not possible then another target is Stevan Jovetic, who played for Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City. The Montenegro striker hasn’t played much for Monaco this season.
There was lots of talk yesterday about West Ham agreeing a deal to sign Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez in the summer - still no movement on that, though.
As for outgoings, West Ham hope to get Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez off the wage bill. They want to sell rather than loan, though. Perez could go to Real Betis in a £3.5m deal - but Hernandez’s hopes of going to Valencia are fading. I’m told West Ham offered the Mexican to Schalke yesterday. The Germans weren’t interested.

A few deals done in the Football League: Norwich have signed left-back Philip Heise from Dynamo Dresden; Sunderland have loaned Celtic winger Lewis Morgan until the end of the season; and Nico Yennaris has left Brentford to join Beijing Sinobo Guoan in China.
Crystal Palace had hoped to secure forwards for their ranks this month but, with Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham now back to fitness, their only senior addition has been the free transfer return of Bakary Sako from West Bromwich Albion on a short-term deal. Yet, for all that Roy Hodgson suggested post-match at St Mary’s that there remained scope potentially to lure one more new body in before the cut-off, any further deals today are unlikely.
Money is tight at Selhurst Park, not least with the club’s onerous wage bill in mind, so Palace would most likely have to shift a player – the under-used Jairo Riedewald has attracted interest from Spain – before they could bring another in. Had the Netherlands international moved on then, maybe, Everton’s James McCarthy might have been reunited with his former Hamilton Academicals and Wigan team-mate, James McArthur at Selhurst Park. As it is, Hodgson may have to use the resources currently at his disposal to ease Palace clear of trouble at the foot.
Fulham have found someone to take penalty-stealer, yoga rough-houser and training ground grappler Aboubakar Kamara off their hands: according to the Press Association’s Simon Peach, he’s going to Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey.
It’s on. Peter Crouch is actually heading back to the Premier League. He’s moving to Burnley as part of a deal that primarily features Sam Vokes going to Stoke, and according to the Press Association he’s having a medical as we speak.
Vincent Janssen is in talks with Schalke, as he seeks a loan move away from Spurs – and what has been a nightmare season for him. The striker has also been of interest to Real Betis and Cardiff. It is shaping up to be a quiet day for Spurs, with their only other piece of pressing business being the loan move of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to Monaco. That should be confirmed some time soon.
Much like champagne, Pink Floyd and Twin Peaks, I’ve never really ‘got’ the appeal of Che Adams, but plenty others disagree, as our boy Ed says here.

Hogan moves to Sheffield United
Sheffield United have signed Scott Hogan on loan from Aston Villa. That could be an extremely shrewd bit of business: he’s not been great at Aston Villa, but that can be a place where good players get sucked in and never seen again. If Chris Wilder can get him back to his Brentford form, that could be a belter of a move.

Lucas Piazon, the Brazilian forward who spent last season on loan at Fulham, has left Chelsea to join Chievo in Italy, also on loan.
Any Hearts fans expecting big news today might be disappointed, because their manager will be rocking the eff out.
Craig Levein on whether he will be adding to his Hearts squad today: “No I'm going to watch Snow Patrol tonight, my phone will be off. Brilliant, eh?
— Andy Newport (@AndyNewportPA) January 31, 2019
“I don't see (anyone going out). It will be hard to get hold of me."
Also confirms that John Souttar is close to signing new deal
Incidentally, you can mock Snow Patrol and their bed wetter stylings, but in their early days they were much edgier, heavily influenced by Sebadoh and that genre of American music. Here’s Starfighter Pilot, from their debut album ‘Songs For Polar Bears’.
Some Arsenal stuff now. The BBC’s David Ornstein, who usually has some pretty solid sources at the Emirates, reports that their move for Yannick Carrasco is off (a better offer from Milan, apparently - Ivan Gazidis haunting his old club) while any talk of Ivan Perisic was a bit of a non-starter.
However, he does also say that they are pressing for PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku, who they want on loan with an option to buy.
Meanwhile, this was mentioned in the Rumour Mill, but it looks like both Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah are heading out of Arsenal on loan, to RB Leipzig and Augsburg respectively.

Aston Villa are expected to confirm the loan signing of Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth shortly. West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest and Derby County were also interested in Mings, who can play at left-back and as a central defender, but the cost of the deal – Bournemouth were looking for a £1m loan fee – put him out of their reach. Mings was Bournemouth’s club-record signing when he joined the club from Ipswich in June 2015 for £9m.
Sky have just showed footage of Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca at the Newcastle training ground. He was struggling to open the boot of a BMW, but hopefully that isn’t an indication of his on-pitch quality.
And another heading in at Forest...

DONE DEAL
Well, sort of. Wolves have signed Jonny Otto on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid, firming up the loan deal they signed in the summer.
Nottingham Forest have signed Pele. Or, to give him his full name, Edson Arantes do Nas...sorry, wait, no, scratch that - Judilson Mamadu Tuncará Gomes, who’s a midfielder on loan from Monaco.
Liverpool fans may find more excitement in staring at the top of the Premier League table today than their club’s transfer business. No incomings are planned and the main activity centres on finally removing Lazar Markovic from the wage bill, if possible. The £20m signing from Benfica in 2014 has been banished to the under-23s this season, after a proposed move to Anderlecht fell through last summer, and his Liverpool contract expires in the summer. He has interest from several clubs including one in Mexico. Ben Woodburn could go out on loan again - this time to Hull City - but a relatively quiet day at Melwood otherwise.
Darrien Bold has a smoking hot tip: “I might be a little late to the party on this one but I’ve just spotted tenacious midfielder Vinny Samways sheltering from the elements at Liverpool Lime Street station as rumours of a cool £2 million move to Everton continue to do the rounds.”
DONE DEAL!
It’s a large one to kick things off: young Manchester United midfielder Matty Willock has joined Crawley Town on loan for the rest of the season. He’s the third footballing brother of Chris (Benfica) and Joe (Arsenal), and this is his fourth loan move, so you can imagine how delighted he must be.
Away from deadline day for a moment, miniature Toronto FC playmaker Sebastian Giovinco has been punted off to Al-Hilal, and he doesn’t sound desperately impressed with the whole affair. He wrote on Instagram:
As I have always maintained, I was hoping to renew my contract and finish my playing career in a city that feels like home. For the 2 years [sic] I have been seeking to extend my contract, however management was reluctant. Recently, after refusing to exercise the club option for 2020, I was offered terms that I deemed unacceptable.
They may say I left for a more lucrative deal, but this is not the case. After having grown the brand and elevating the overall reputation of TFC both at home and abroad, it seems I no longer serve a purpose. I would have accepted less to stay in Toronto.

A brief round-up of some quotes about transfers from managers whose teams played last night:
Mauricio Pochettino: “I don’t know anything. I am going to talk now with my chief scout Steve Hitchen, I am going to ask for some news. I expect that maybe some player is going to leave but I do not expect that we are going to add to the squad. I am going to talk because I want some news, but not because I am expecting to sign a player.”
Roy Hodgson: “I’m happy with the squad I’ve got but it’s not that big. I don’t know that there’s any activity planned. We’ve brought in Bakary Sako. I was told we’d bring in two players but I don’t count the young goalkeeper (loanee Lucas Perri); a goalkeeper was far from a priority.”
Claude Puel: “If something is not effective I don’t want to comment on this. I am happy if my squad doesn’t move. The last day is a crazy day but I hope we keep the good attitude tomorrow.”
Ralph Hasenhuttl: “I don’t want to take a transfer that doesn’t fit 100 per cent to us,. Maybe in the summer but with this squad to go until May is not a problem. I expect nothing (with Austin).”
A reminder: all January’s moves are detailed in our transfer interactive. All of them. Every last one. Even those you didn’t think you needed to know about, but really you do.
A quick round-up of transfer nuggets from last night. And it is...quick, reflecting the state of the market at the moment.
The deadline day Rumour Mill: Willian. Doucoure. Crouch. Sessions.
A little more on the Özil rumour: it comes from Germany, specifically newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, who report that PSG asked to loan the German as a temporary replacement for Neymar, but Özil doesn’t seem terribly keen so far. Another option could be James Rodriguez, but since he’s on loan at Bayern from Real Madrid, there’s a whole bunch of political and admin-related hoops to jump through there. And, as the Rumour Mill tells us, Willian could be an option too.
So there we have it: three completely different players to replace a player that is completely different to all three. It’s almost as if they’re making this whole thing up on the fly.
Updated
Preamble
Here we are again, then. Deadline day. Since transfer rumours are now seemingly of greater interest to the wider world than actual football, we suppose we should be awfully interested in all of this.
But what is actually going to happen today? Most of the big boys are keeping their powder dry, but there’s always the hint of an out-of-the-blue move. Neymar’s injury has thrown a cat among some pigeons, and they could be casting around for a replacement at the very last minute. Could that replacement be Mesut Özil? There’s talk of them trying to get him on loan, but will Arsenal let him go, even if he seems to be something of a spare part there these days?
Beyond that, who knows. Well, we probably do know. But for the sake of appearances, let’s just say we don’t know.
If Cahill doesnt want to pack a suitcase and his passport, why not just head down the road to Fulham. They have a dire need and Cahill would benefit from regular games. He can always have that rescue clause in case of relegation in any contract.
