Transfer blow for Arsenal as Odsonne Edouard reveals desire to stay at Celtic next season

Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard says he is ‘flattered’ by reported interest from Arsenal, but insists he wants to stay in Glasgow next season to be part of the Hoops’ historic bid for a tenth straight title.

The 22-year-old was named Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year earlier this week, after finishing the curtailed SPL season top of the scoring charts with 22 goals.

That kind of form has seen him linked with several Premier League clubs, most notably Arsenal, who may be in the market for a new striker should Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave the club.

However, after helping Celtic win a ninth successive title – tying a record they already shared with Old Firm rivals Rangers – Edouard is keen to be part of an unprecedented tenth.

“Winning 10 in a row is very important for the club, the players and the fans,” he told The Mail.

“Of course, I would love to be part of it. No one knows what will happen in the future but I want to be a part of it.

“My first target right now is to play football again after so much time away from the pitch. I only set personal targets for myself once the season actually starts. At the moment, I am still under contract with Celtic and my priority is to get back playing again. In the future, we will see what happens.”

“[The interest from Arsenal] shows you are working hard and doing the right things as a player. It is flattering, but I just concentrate on trying to play well for Celtic. That's what I am focused on at the moment.”
