Transatlantic flights from Edinburgh cancelled as Wow goes out of business

Wow Air has cancelled its flights out of Edinburgh after the Icelandic airline went out of business leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

The budget carrier flies direct to Reykjavik and from the capital to six North American cities via Keflavik.

BA flew passengers to Edinburgh instead of Dusseldorf by mistake

In the early hours of today, Wow said it had cancelled the day's flights while completing an agreement with a group of investors over raising new funds.

But it later announced it had "ceased operation", with all future flights cancelled.

Its UK flights also served London Gatwick and London Stansted, flying to Boston, Detroit, Montreal, New York, Toronto and Washington DC.

Wow Air said: "Wow Air has ceased operation. All Wow Air flights have been cancelled. Passengers are advised to check available flights with other airlines.

"Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances."

Loganair launches Newcastle base as first service from Glasgow to Dusseldorf takes off

It added: "Passengers may also be entitled to compensation from Wow Air, including in accordance with European regulation on Air Passenger Rights.

"In case of a bankruptcy, claims should be filed to the administrator/liquidator."
