Tranmere vs Watford FA Cup replay called off

Tranmere Rovers' FA Cup replay against Watford at Prenton Park has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The last couple of days have seen torrential rainfall across the city, and with more forecast for this afternoon, the decision has been made to rearrange the third round fixture.

The playing surface at Prenton Park has been covered since yesterday and a pitch inspection was scheduled at around 6pm today, but the surface has already been deemed unplayable.

Rovers produced a stunning comeback to force a replay in front of their home fans, with Paul Mullin's late penalty levelling the scores in a game Tranmere had trailed 3-0 at half time.

Micky Mellon's side have the added incentive of hosting either Manchester United or Wolves in the next round of the cup, should they overcome Nigel Pearson's Watford.

They later added on Twitter: "We must add that the ground staff have worked tirelessly, working all hours, over the past few days in attempt to get the game on but were unfortunately beaten by the weather."

Rovers have now announced the game has been rescheduled for Thursday 23 January, 7.45pm kick off.
