Tranmere’s transfer stance on Manny Monthe as Portsmouth rumours intensify

Tranmere are keen to keep hold of fan-favourite Manny Monthe this month, with a spokesman from the club confirming a focus will be placed on ‘strengthening the squad’ in the January transfer window.

The powerful centre-half has been subject of strong speculation linking him with a move to fellow League One side Portsmouth, for a fee believed to be in the region of £750,000, but the ECHO has been informed that no formal offers have been made for the 24-year-old.

Rovers fell into the bottom three for the first time this season following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Coventry City on New Year’s Day, though the Whites are now aiming to climb the table through the help of quality additions.

Two signings have so far been completed, with 38-year-old defender Peter Clarke first arriving from Fleetwood Town on Wednesday. Meanwhile Tranmere yesterday secured the services of Peterborough midfielder Alex Woodyard on a season-long loan deal.

Clarke is available for selection in today’s FA Cup tie with Watford, however Woodyard is cup-tied.
