Tranmere Rovers trip to Colchester United postponed less than 90 minutes before kick-off

Tranmere Rovers' trip to Colchester United in League Two was suspended less than 90 minutes before kick-off on Saturday due to coronavirus.

Two Rovers players presented with symptoms on the morning of the game.

Tranmere and the Football League were happy for the fixture to be honoured after consultation but a Colchester statement said postponement was 'neccessary' after also struggling with coronavirus 'issues'.

It read: "The game between Colchester United and Tranmere Rovers has been postponed.

"The postponement has been necessary due to COVID-19 issues in both squads and a date for the rearranged game will be announced in due course."

Tranmere said: "Tranmere Rovers Football Club can confirm today’s match at Colchester United has been suspended.

"The Club had two players exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms this morning. Having consulted with the League, they confirmed they were happy for the fixture to proceed, as were the Club.

"The Club will be making no further comment."

Tranmere are 13th in League Two after their points-per-game relegation from League One last season.

They travel to high-flying Championship outfit Barnsley in the FA Cup next weekend.
