A police investigation has been launched after a Tranmere Rovers fan was removed from the stadium for allegedly making "discriminatory comments".
Officers were called to Prenton Park to deal with the fan who reportedly made the comments during Tranmere's Papa John’s Trophy defeat to Leeds United U21s Tuesday, October, 4. The club has said it is "very disappointed" by the incident and confirmed the supporter was removed from the ground.
A statement on the club's website said: "Tranmere Rovers Football Club are very disappointed to learn of alleged discriminatory comments that were made during our Papa John’s Trophy match against Leeds United U21s at Prenton Park on Tuesday 4th October. The club takes matters like this very seriously with a zero-tolerance policy.

"As a consequence of these actions, a supporter was removed from the ground and the police were called to deal with the individual. Tranmere Rovers understand that this behaviour is not representative of the majority of our fan base but will not tolerate this behaviour in our stadium and any persons found to be making comments of hate crime of any sorts are not welcome at our football Club or in football.
"The Club will be making no further comment whilst the police deal with their investigation."
