Tranmere discover Carabao Cup first-round fate is Championship opposition

Tranmere will host Championship side Hull City in the first-round of the Carabao Cup.

Ties for first-round fixtures are scheduled to take place the week commencing Monday, August 12, with official dates to be confirmed in due course.

Rovers have shaped up against the Tigers on three occasions in the past, with the latest meeting between the sides also coming in the form of a League Cup round one encounter. In the end, this proved to be a marginal victory for Hull , as they scored in extra-time to win 2-1 and progress to the second-round.

Micky Mellon’s men will be looking to improve on last year’s performance in this particular cup competition, having exited at the first hurdle last campaign after a home 3-1 defeat versus Walsall.
