TRANG: The provincial governor has opened his freshly renovated residence as a new historic landmark for visitors who can get inside free of charge every day.
The residence, situated on a three-rai plot on a slope on Phatthalung Road in Nakhon Trang municipality, has been renovated for its centennial celebrations this year.
The two-storey concrete-wood building got a new roof, rain trough, interior and exterior painting, as well as new floors and glass windows for a clear city view.
Governor Siriphat Pattankul on Monday let a group from Trang Christian Suksa School visit the house, which was listed as one of the 20 ancient places in the province.
He said the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit once stayed at this residence when they visited Trang on March 16, 1959.
The governor has improved the landscape and planted more trees and flowers. Half of the garden has been allocated to growing vegetables, raising chicken and keeping some pets.
Mr Siriphat said he would like to demonstrate land allocation based on the late King’s sufficiency philosophy and develop it into the province’s new landmark. The initiative has received a warm response from local people as some couples have used it as a location for their wedding photos.
