TRANG: A married couple are being praised for their kindness in donating 30 million baht to construct a new building for inpatients at a public hospital in Ratsada district.
The two-storey building has 25 rooms fully equipped with beds and other essentials at Ratsada Hospital, all paid for with money donated by Supakit Sartsuwan and his wife Khruesai. It was opened on Nov 9, helping alleviate the severe shortage of accommodation at the hospital.
The donation was not previously made public. The couple did not ask for anything in return, hospital director Chainarong Makpeng said on Wednesday.
The new building means patients wanting a private room do not need to seek admission at hospitals in Muang district. They would also save money as the room rates were not high, Dr Chainarong said.
The building has 23 special rooms and two VIP rooms. The hospital charges 1,300 baht a night for a special room and 1,800 baht for a VIP room.
The hospital faces a shortage of staff and medical equipment, but must still serve 29,000 local residents and another 20,000-30,000 people in nearby provinces. It runs at a loss of 4-5 million baht a year, the hospital director said.
He praised Mr Supakit and his wife for donating the money for the building.
Mr Supakit, known locally as Ko Khai, said the money belonged to his wife’s elder brother Samkhan Kaewsomboon, who died two years ago.
Samkhan was unmarried and left a lot of money when he passed away.
The couple were appointed executors of his estate. They had consulted other relatives and all shared the same view - that they should donate Samkhan’s money, a total of 30 million baht, to Ratsada Hospital for construction of a new wing for inpatients
Ms Khruesai said neither she nor her family wanted anything to return. She only wanted to pay tribute to her late brother and other deceased relatives.
The couple run several businesses in Trang province. They like to make merit and do charity activities.
