Trams have been stopped between Ashton-under-Lyne and Droylsden following a crash on the tracks at Audenshaw.

Emergency services were called to Droylsden Road just before 10.45am on Friday morning to reports of a collision involving an Audi A6 and a Metrolink tram.

The crash reportedly happened close to the BP garage.

It is understood one person suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

The line is currently blocked in both directions, however tickets and passes are being accepted on several local bus services.

Metrolink tweeted: "Due to a road traffic collision, there are NO services operating between Droylsden and Ashton.

"Tickets and passes can be used on bus services 216, 217, 230 & 231. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Stagecoach GM also tweeted to say diversions were in place.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said three crews - as well as a Technical Response Unit - were on scene.

They added: "We were called at 10.42 to Droylsden Road in Audenshaw to reports of a collision involving an Audi A6 and a tram.

"All persons had self rescued by the time we arrived.

"We are still on scene."
