A replacement bus will be operating along the Ashton line.

Trams on all other lines will be running until 1am.

Passengers planning to travel tonight are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check the Metrolink website and Twitter feeds for details of any possible further disruption.

A statement on the Metrolink website says: "Due to the increasing impact of COVID-19 on tram driver staffing levels, and to maintain a scheduled service for as many passengers as possible, Metrolink services on the Eccles, Ashton and Manchester Airport lines will be affected on New Year’s Eve.

"Passengers are advised to continue checking back here for further details regarding travel on New Year's Eve or on via Twitter.

"Please allow extra time for journeys while COVID-19 continues to impact staff availability."
