Trams are going to start running until midnight six days a week later this month

The Metrolink is going to start running until midnight six days a week later this month.

Transport for Greater Manchester has announced that trams will operate from an extra hour from Monday to Saturday, from Monday, August 24.

The last tram services on a Sunday will also be extended, from 10pm to 11pm.

The frequency of tram services on Sundays will increase to one every 15 minutes between 7am and 11pm, following an increased demand on services.

Trams will now run every ten minutes across all lines between 6am and 7pm Monday to Friday and every 20 minutes until midnight.

They will be every ten minutes from 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and then every 20 minutes until midnight.

On Sundays a 15 minute service will run throughout the day from 7am until 11pm.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Head of Operations, Alex Cropper, said: “These changes will make it easier for people to get around the city-region, especially later at night. We are now seeing an increased demand, so we’re extending the running times and the frequency of services, as well as ensuring that we’re operating as many double services as we can across the network.

“We are working hard with our partners to ensure cleaning standards remain as high as possible, but we would also remind passengers it is essential they wear a mask and watch their distance when using public transport. It is also sensible to continue to allow extra time for journeys.”

Earlier this month, the 10 minute tram frequency was increased from 6pm to 8pm following more demand after venues started opening again after lockdown partially eased.
