Trams and buses delayed this morning after crash between cyclist and motorist

A collision on a busy Edinburgh street caused public transport to come to a halt this morning.

Trams and buses across Edinburgh were disrupted this morning after a cyclist hit a car in the city centre.

At about 8:20am this morning (Tuesday September 29) a male cyclist collided with a car coming out of Atholl Crescent Lane, according to a witness who was at the scene.

An eyewitness told the Evening News: “The man looked around his late 20s or early 30s and was travelling towards Haymarket when he was in a collision with a Volkswagen Polo which was coming out of Atholl Crescent Lane.

"He was treated by a nurse who lived near where the accident happened and he didn’t seem seriously hurt.

"Buses and trams in both directions were suspended for a short period.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: “At around 8:20am this morning police and emergency services were called to a road traffic collision at Atholl Crescent Lane between a car and a cyclist.

"Emergency services are still in place and enquiries are ongoing.”

Public transport is understood to have resumed a normal service.
