Tram stop crash outside hospital injures pedestrian

A witness said the driver was on her mobile phone when the crash happened.

A pedestrian and a driver have been taken to hospital after a car mounted a tram stop in Adelaide's CBD and crashed into a bench.

Police and ambulance services were called to the scene outside the Royal Adelaide Hospital just before 2:00pm.

A man in his 60s was struck and has been taken to the nearby hospital with head injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The female driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a precaution.

A witness said the driver was using a mobile phone when she lost control of the car.

The vehicle came close to other bystanders, and one witness said it was fortunate no-one else was injured.

"I was in shock because I've never seen anything like that," Jordan Dzwiniel said.

"It was kind of amazing because everyone's instinct was to help."

Meanwhile, emergency services attended the scene of a serious crash between a car and a truck at Halidon in South Australia's Murray Mallee.

The crash happened on the Karoonda Highway between Karoonda and Halidon just before 1:20pm.

The highway has been closed to all traffic and police have asked drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
