Trainspotting alumni Kelly Macdonald is set to play a tough cops in the new series of hit BBC show Line of Duty.
The Scot will star alongside Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and fellow Scot Martin Compston when AC-12 return.
She will play Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder, whose unconventional conduct raises suspicions at AC-12.
It is expected she will be an adversary to the anti-corruption team, which could mean fireworks onscreen.
Line of Duty writer and showrunner, Jed Mercurio, says: "We're honoured that Kelly Macdonald will join Martin, Vicky and Adrian in series six of Line Of Duty. DCI Joanne Davidson will prove the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced."
The most recent episode of Line Of Duty, series five’s finale on BBC One back in May, is the most watched programme of the year so far, with a 28-day figure of 13.7 million viewers across all TV and online viewing.
Co-star Martin Compston tweeted his delight at Kelly joining the team. He said: "Another magnificent addition to the Line of Duty team. Said it before huge part of the show’s success is the phenomenal guest actors we’ve had. Kelly Macdonald will be up there with the best of them, what a talent what a career.
"Buzzing to get the tape started."
