Trains leaving London for Nottingham will lock their doors two minutes before departure

East Midlands Railway has decided to close its train doors two minutes before departure in a bid to keep services on time.

The move will affect services leaving London St Pancras International and will be in place from Tuesday, December 3.

Train doors are currently locked on EMR services one minute before departure.

A spokesman for the train company said if services do not leave the capital on time it can cause backlogs across the entire Midland mainline.

Passengers should allow themselves extra times to pass through ticket gates.

An East Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “We do all we can to make sure we continue to run a safe and reliable railway for our customers.

"A crucial part of that is to ensure our Intercity services depart London St Pancras on time.

"If this doesn't happen, this not only delays our passengers on this service but it can also delay other trains and cause backlogs across the Midland Mainline.

“So, we are asking everyone to allow themselves an extra 60 seconds to pass through the gates at London and board the train so we can dispatch them safely and on time."
