Trains disrupted by flooding across Glasgow as heavy rain batters city

Rail travellers are facing severe delays today as a number of services are cancelled throughout the city.

Flooding has occurred on several lines in and around Glasgow, leading to the widespread disruption.

Train cancellations are in place between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Stirling and Alloa.

ScotRail has said that the delays are expected to continue until 8.15pm this evening.

A flood alert has been issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) for West Central Scotland.

A statement from the organisation reads: "Heavy and persistent rain will affect the Southern Uplands from Friday night and throughout Saturday. This may lead to localised flooding from surface water, small watercourses and larger rivers, with the high flows on the larger rivers continuing into Sunday.

"Built up areas and the transport network are at greater risk where possible impacts could include: significant travel disruption, flooding affecting properties, communities and key infrastructure throughout the day and into the evening."
