Trains delays after flooding in West Lothian

Heavy rainfall over the weekend has caused disruptions on the railway today.

The rain has flooded the railway at Winchburgh Tunnel and this resulted in disruption on the routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Airdrie / Bathgate, via Falkirk High and via Falkirk Grahamston.

Engineers are at the site monitoring the situation as the water levels regress. Once this is complete the track will need to be inspected for any damage. Water levels are low enough for services to operate through the area at a reduced speed.

Services between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Falkirk are currently operating half hourly, and services via Airdrie/Bathgate are returning to normal after severe disruptions this morning.

To compliment train services Scotrail are running a replacement bus shuttle services between Falkirk and Edinburgh Park.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to customers whose journey has been disrupted due to heavy rain flooding the railway.

“We’re been doing everything we can to keep customers moving and get services back to normal. Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more can claim money back through our Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app.”
