Trains are experiencing delays this morning after a lorry smashed into a railway bridge.
Network Rail issued the warning to passengers shortly after 7am (Wednesday, September 23).
They said the HGV had struck a railway bridge in Walkden and also hit another bridge shortly after leaving the scene.
The incident has sparked delays between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent.
Network Rail tweeted: "Delays to trains between #WiganWallgate & #SalfordCrescent. Because a lorry hit our rail bridge in #Walkden - the driver drove off hitting another bridge nearby.
"Dear lorry drivers - please know the heights of your vehicles. Don’t guess.".
Northern also tweeted: " Due to a lorry colliding with a bridge between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent trains have to run at reduced speed.
"Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 15 minutes. "
