Trains cancelled due to emergency incident near Weston-super-Mare

Trains were delayed this evening due to an emergency incident in North Somerset.

GWR services were delayed and cancelled from around 9pm on Tuesday, November 5 as emergency services were called to an incident near Weston-super-Mare.

The nature of the incident is not yet clear but it brought services between Cardiff Central, Gloucester, Bristol Temple Meads, London Paddington, Weston-super-Mare and Taunton, to a standstill.

Bus replacement services were put in place for a time and tickets were being accepted on First services.

In a statement, National Rail Enquiries confirmed services had begun to return back to normal shortly before 10pm but warned that disruption was expected to continue until 10:45pm.

A spokesperson said: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident near Weston-super-Mare, trains at the station are now returning to normal. Trains may be delayed or cancelled until approximately 22:45."
