A woman has been detained by police after a 'trespass' incident which has caused rail cancellations and delays in Greater Manchester.
Northern says services running through Bolton station are either being cancelled or facing delays of around 30 minutes after the incident earlier this afternoon (December 30).
British Transport Police (BTP) says it was called out to Bolton railway station at 2.52pm following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman.
The woman was detained by officers under the Mental Health Act and taken to a place of safety, BTP says.
On social media, Northern warned passengers that railway lines were blocked 'due to trespassers on the railway at Bolton' at around 3.20pm.
The company later said it was unable to run services in both directions between Bolton and Blackburn.
Some services are now running through Bolton station, although Northern says passengers can still expect some disruption this evening.
A BTP spokesperson said: "BTP was called to Bolton station at 2.52pm today (December 30) following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman.
"Officers attended, and the woman was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a place of safety."
A spokesperson for Northern added: "Following trespassers on the railway at Bolton some lines have now reopened.
"However, train services running through this station may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes."
