Trains between Edinburgh and Fife suspended after passenger collapses on board

Rail services between Edinburgh and Fife have been suspended after a passenger took ill on board a train.

Emergency crews have rushed to the station at Kirkcaldy amid reports of a person suffering a medical emergency.

Trains between the Capital, Dundee and Perth were initially being diverted via Cowdenbeath instead of following their usual route through the Fife town.

But services between the city and the Kingdom are now being suspended in both directions for an undetermined period while the passenger receives care on board.

The cause of the emergency is currently unknown, but is understood to be medical in nature.

The passenger has since been moved into the care of emergency services, with trains starting to get back to normal.

A ScotRail statement read: "A passenger has taken ill on a train in Kirkcaldy. While we wait for the emergency services to attend, we can't run any trains north through the station.

"We have now had to suspend our Edinburgh - Glenrothes via Kirkcaldy services in both directions."

It continued: "The ill passenger is in the care of the emergency services and trains are getting back on the move."
