Large companies have spent money supporting training programmes to develop their human resources during the pandemic in the hope of gaining long-term benefits once Covid-19 is brought under control, according to consultancy PacRim Group.
The programmes included leadership development and the upskilling of employees, aimed at equipping them with modern business know-how and management skills, which are necessary to drive companies, said PacRim Group.
"Large business organisations believe leadership and upskilling are necessary to ensure their sustainable growth," said Porntip Iyimapun, founder and chief executive of PacRim Group.
Her company specialises in providing leadership development and cultural transformation training programmes as well as giving advice on the use of technologies.
Human resource development is very important to the Thai economy. The country needs to build a new generation of business people to succeed their predecessors in order to help develop their organisations and society.
"From our viewpoint, Thailand still lacks top executives who can become business leaders on the global stage," she said.
PacRim Group is working with Thai and foreign firms to train and develop the skills of employees, paving the way for them to become top executives in the future.
Amid a spate of business crises and fast-changing technologies, many companies need to reshape their mindsets, build new capabilities and implement innovative ideas that will lead to better business performance and growth.
Digital technologies are among the tools PacRim Group is using to support the businesses of its customers.
Thailand was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, causing the government to enforce harsh lockdown measures, including travel restrictions and curfews. Authorities were able to contain the spread of the highly transmissible virus, but many businesses, particularly in the tourism sector, were seriously affected.
The daily Covid-19 infection rate appears to have been brought under control this year, but the country is facing an energy price crisis that has lead to very high inflation amid the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ms Porntip said the company set a target to help develop the human resources of 1,000 organisations within five years (2022-2026).
PacRim Group is also preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary by organising an online seminar on July 7 entitled "Decoding the Great and Enduring: Wisdom from 30 Leaders".
