Training for policemen to check authenticity of Aadhaar card in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal said on Friday that a special workshop will be organised in all the districts of the state in the next one month for training and awareness purposes of the policemen to check the authenticity or wrong information in Aadhaar card.

The chief secretary held an important meeting with the state government and UIDAI officials in Chandigarh on Friday. He said that in these workshops, which will be organized in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police or their representatives will be trained to verify the authenticity of Aadhaar cards by the UIDAI experts.

Sanjeev Kaushal said that in this workshop, proper information will also be given about the process of re-verifying the address of citizens having 10 years old Aadhaar and making new cards for persons who are 18 years or more.

Kaushal urged the Aadhaar holders, who have not updated their Aadhaar in the last 8 years, to update Aadhaar online through 'myAadhaar portal' or 'mAadhaar App' or offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar centre with valid supporting documents of identity and address proof.

He said that the purpose of this activity being done by the UIDAI to update 10 years old Aadhaar cards as per the instructions of the central government is only aimed at anti-social elements who are taking any kind of advantage of the Aadhaar details in any manner.

He informed that so far 54 suspicious cases related to the authenticity of Aadhaar have come to the UIDAI, out of which necessary action has been taken on 14 and their Aadhaar has been deactivated.

On 37, the verification process is going on. Sanjeev Kaushal said that in the last decade, Aadhaar card has emerged as a universally accepted proof of identity of residents in India. It is in the interest of the residents to keep their Aadhaar updated with current proof of identity and proof of address. A large number of central and state government schemes and financial institutions such as banks and NBFCs use Aadhaar to authenticate and onboard customers, he added.
