Training camp will be a huge chapter in Sean Mannion’s career

What Sean Mannion proves in August will likely be the start or the end of a chapter for him in his NFL career.

Mannion, a 2015 third-round pick, will be competing with Kyle Sloter for the Vikings backup quarterback spot to Kirk Cousins.

Mannion has spent the last four seasons with the Rams, but he appeared in just one meaningless game, so we really don’t know a whole lot about him.

If Mannion loses out on the backup spot, the Vikings can release him for just a $90,000 penalty while they’d save $735,000 against the cap. It could also be the end of teams seriously considering Mannion for a backup quarterback spot in the future.

However, if he does prove himself and win the job, it will set him up for an opportunity like that in the future, whether it’s with the Vikings or another team.

Mannion hasn’t had much pressure throughout his career. That changes late this summer, and his career rides on it.
