Training camp 2019: Tarik Cohen strives for Bears ‘dynasty’

The buzz all offseason for the Chicago Bears has been using last season’s abrupt playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as motivation to not only return to postseason action in 2019 but to ultimately win the Super Bowl. Expectations are high for this year’s squad, and RB Tarik Cohen just raised the stakes exponentially.

Upon arriving at the Olivet Nazarene University campus in Bourbonnais, IL in his speedy Slingshot and donning a Walter Payton jersey, Cohen told reporters he and the team have lofty goals. He’s picturing a dynasty.

“Oh yeah, definitely”, Cohen told reporters. “After we win one, it’s not going to be our just to win one. We’re trying to win multiple.”

Make no mistake, this is bold. The Bears finally returned to the playoffs after an eight-year drought. They finished 12-4, winning the NFC North and boasted arguably the best defense in the league. But they failed to win a playoff game and spent the rest of the postseason wondering “what if”.

Now, with most of their team back and entering year two of Nagy’s tenure, it’s Super Bowl or bust.

The NFL already has dynasties of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the ’70s, San Francisco 49ers of the ’80s, Dallas Cowboys of the ’90s, and the New England Patriots of the ’00s and ’10s, do the Bears actually have a shot to be the team of the 2020s?

Fans and experts may overreact to the statement, but goals are meant to be something you strive to obtain over time. Cohen and the team are dreaming big and want to bring a perennial championship contender to the city of Chicago. Of course, there are steps they need to take to get there, such as advancing in the postseason. But why not expect greatness out of yourself and your teammates?

Cohen is dreaming big and Bears fans should have no issue with that.
