A 23-year-old Perth man who clung to a windscreen wiper on the back of a moving train that reached speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour has been fined $1,000.
The man climbed onto the rear of a train before it left Leederville Station on September 23 and was filmed clinging on by a motorist on the Mitchell Freeway as the train headed north to Glendalough station.
The Public Transport Authority (PTA) said at the time he could easily have been killed.
A Main Roads employee spotted the man while monitoring traffic, and immediately notified the PTA.
The man climbed down from the rear of the train when it stopped at Glendalough and entered a carriage.
He was arrested by transit officers at Stirling station, the next station along.
The man pleaded guilty to one count of trespass in the Perth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The magistrate said he had engaged in "high risk-taking behaviour".
He was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay court costs of $191.
The maximum penalty for trespass is $12,000 and 12 months' jail.
