Train passengers unknowingly rode alongside dead man for five hours

Passengers sat alongside a dead man on train for five hours after the 60-year-old passed away and no-one noticed.

The man boarded the train for an eight-minute journey but suffered a heart attack and wasn't found for another 250 miles.

According to the Scottish Sun the man got onto the 6.27pm train at Manchester Picadilly last Saturday and was de to leave at Stockport.

He was found by a cleaner five hours later in Bournemouth at the town's depot.

An unnamed source told the paper conductors have been ordered not to interact with passengers due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

“They are not walking through carriages checking tickets and making sure everyone is OK, as they usually do.

“Their only task is to despatch trains safely. They spend the rest of the journey at the rear in their office.

“This poor fellow was dead on the train five hours before being found, which is heartbreaking in a civilised society.”

British Transport Police are said to be investigating

It is reportedly the second concerning incident in recent weeks.

An elderly woman with dementia travelling from Birmingham New Street to Exeter is said to have missed her stop and ended up an hour away in Plymouth at 1am, so distressed paramedics had to be called.

The Scottish Sun reports the woman spent the night in hospital before being taken home by a relative.
