Train line blocked after discovery of unexploded bomb

Train lines in south Wales have been blocked after builders found what appears to be an unexploded bomb.

Trains between Bridgend and Barry have been halted as emergency services work at the scene of the property at Rhoose Point.

A bomb disposal unit is on its way to the scene.

South Wales Police said that alarm was raised just after 11am when contractors working at a property at Rhoose Point "uncovered what appears to be unexploded ordnance."

The area has been cordoned off.

A spokesman added: "Local diversions are in place and the nearby railway line closed to traffic. The bomb disposal unit will be attending."

National Rail said trains had been stopped to "allow emergency services to do their work safely".

Transport for Wales said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Barry and Bridgend all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised."

Disruption is expected until at least 3pm
