NAKHON SAWAN: The driver of an articulated lorry was killed and a passenger injured when a train hit the lorry at a railway crossing in Ta Khli district on Saturday, police said.
Pol Maj Teerayut Phusaeng, a Ta Khli police duty officer, said the accident occurred at about 5.20pm near Ban Khao Phukha in tambon Hua Wai.
Eyewitnesses told police that the train -- Bangkok-bound No 211 heading for Phichit's Taphanhin district -- hit the lorry as it was crossing the tracks at a level crossing without a barricade,
The front section of the lorry was detached from the trailer by the violent impact. The driver, identified later as Chalermpol Kocha-in, 36, was killed and Saran Saengchawee, 29, the passenger, was injured. Mr Chalermpol was admitted to Ta Khli Hospital.
The front of the train locomotive was damaged and the train driver sustained minor injuries from broken glass.
The accident disrupted train traffic on the North-bound route for about an hour.
Police were investigating. An initial investigation revealed that the trailer belonged to a company involved in the construction of a dual rail track. The accident took place after it unloaded gravel near the rail track and was returning to its operation base.
A similar accident occurred on March 20 when train No 211 hit a van at the same railway crossing, killing three passengers in the van.
