Train hits tractor and trailer on level crossing causing injuring multiple passengers

A number of people have been injured after a passenger train crashed into a tractor and trailer at a level crossing.

Emergency services were called to the collision in Leominster, Herefordshire, at around 10.50am today.

The train was not derailed, but there were 56 passengers on board the Manchester-to-Cardiff train when it struck the agricultural vehicle at Nordan Farm.

British Transport Police (BTP) said six people were being assessed by medics. It is understood the injuries are not serious.

The air ambulance was deployed, alongside land ambulances and paramedics.

All lines are blocked between Hereford and Craven Arms with disruption expected until 7pm, according to National Rail.

A Transport for Wales spokesperson has told people to check before they travel and that tickets would be accepted by other operators.

BTP said it was at the scene, alongside officers from West Mercia Police and fire crews.

A police spokesperson said inquiries were ongoing to understand the circumstances leading up to the crash.
