Train driver killed in Bedford crash died from ‘traumatic injuries’

Shaun Burton, a 60-year-old train driver, died in a train crash in Bedfordshire on 19 June.
His East Midlands Railway (EMR) train collided with the back of a stationary EMR train near Elstow, Bedford, injuring 162 people, with 102 requiring hospital treatment.
An interim report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) indicated Mr Burton's train proceeded past a red signal before the collision.
An inquest heard Mr Burton's provisional cause of death was "traumatic injuries to the brainstem and chest".
The inquest has been adjourned pending the conclusion of investigations by the RAIB and British Transport Police .
