A train driver has died in a “tragic accident” at a Birmingham rail depot.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to Tyseley maintenance depot near Warwick Road, Birmingham, at around 8.40pm on Saturday night.
The man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed, police said.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has reportedly launched an investigation.
A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Evening Standard: “Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances behind the man’s death, but at this stage there is no evidence to suggest this was anything but a tragic accident.”
West Midlands Trains, which are understood to own the depot, said no members of the public were involved.
A spokesperson added: “A serious incident happened at Tyseley maintenance Depot around 8.30pm last night which unfortunately resulted in a fatality.
“The emergency services were in attendance and a full investigation is underway.”
No rail services were disrupted.
