Passengers are currently facing major disruption on train services between Salford and Wigan due to an injured dog on the track.
Journeys between Wigan North Western and Salford Crescent are subject to delays or cancellations while RSPCA officers tend to the animal.
Some services will be diverted via Westhoughton.
Northern tweeted about the incident at 12.12pm on Saturday.
The train operator said the disruption was due to 'animals on the railway'.
When a passenger asked which animals were on the line, Northern replied that the RSPCA were on their way to assist an 'injured dog'.
Northern train services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester have also been cancelled due to a shortage of staff.
Anyone with a Northern ticket from Piccadilly is urged to get off at Stockport, where they can catch a rail replacement bus.
Disruption is expected to last until 6pm, Northern confirmed on Twitter.
