Train derails in Scotland with reported injuries and engine fire as emergency services rush to scene

A train has derailed in the north-east of Scotland amid reports of an engine fire and passengers being injured.

Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of the stricken train in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire around 9.45am this morning, the Daily Record reports.

Police, fire crews and ambulances are all in attendance.

Many services have been halted today due to the poor weather, which is causing widespread flooding to the north of the country.

Reports suggest the train has 'fallen down an embankment'.

Network Rail have tweeted: "We are working alongside the emergency services to respond to an incident involving a train near Stonehaven.

"It is too early to confirm the exact nature and severity of the incident and more details will be made available once known."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers are currently responding to an incident on the line in Stonehaven.

"We were called at 9.43am, and are on scene alongside paramedics and the fire brigade."

A ScotRail spokesman said: “We’re assisting the emergency services with an incident near Stonehaven, and will provide more information when available.”
