A large scale police operation is underway at Flinders St station in Melbourne, sparking peak hour havoc across the train network.
Police say they were called to the station about 5pm on Monday to conduct a "safety check", and the area has been closed down as a precaution while the checks are underway.
There are few details about the operation, but it has sparked major delays across the metropolitan train network.
Trains heading towards the city have been stopped on all lines, with delays of up to 30 minutes.
Public transport authorities say services will only resume when the station is safe and police investigations are complete.
