Train company to cut Liverpool to London journey times by half an hour

London Northwestern Railway has announced that it will cut journey times by half an hour across some of its services.

West Midlands Trains, the franchise which operates London Northwestern Railway, has announced timetable changes that will see five trains from Lime Street arrive into London 30 minutes earlier.

The new timetable will come into effect from Sunday, December 15 and will see changes to calling patterns south of Birmingham.

Services from London to Liverpool will also see less congestion and fewer delays due to changes in train calling patterns between Coventry and Birmingham, the company says.

The changes also introduce 18 direct trains between Liverpool and London on Sundays.

West Midlands Trains, which operates London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway, runs 1,300 services a day and provides 70 million passenger journeys each year.

The franchise is also investing £1bn into the rail network to deliver new trains, improved routes and station upgrades.

The upgrades will include 400 additional carriages throughout the network and space for a further 85,000 passengers into London and Birmingham at peak times.

The West Midlands Trains franchise began in December 2017 and will run until 2025/26.

Johnny Wiseman, head of customer experience for London Northwestern Railway, said: "The new timetable we introduced in May brought in new journey opportunities and allowed us to carry more passengers but it also introduced complexity which has impacted on reliability.

"The changes we are making this month will simplify the timetable, meaning our passengers in Liverpool should start to enjoy a more reliable service, with more improvements to follow next year."
