'Concern for woman' sparks emergency services response on Scots tracks

Concern for a woman's welfare has sparked an emergency services response on Scots tracks.

British Transport Police raced to the train line between Dunbar and Drem at around 3:30pm today after the alarm was raised over "concern for the welfare of a woman on the tracks".

Commuters faced travel chaos, with ScotRail warning passengers that "all lines are closed" due to "trespassers".

In a statement shortly after 3:30pm, ScotRail said: "Due to trespassers on the railway between Dunbar and Drem all lines are closed."

It's understood emergency services took the person to safety, with the line reopening just after 4.30pm.

It's unclear what routes were affected but frustrated passengers have already experienced delays.

When asked whether an Edinburgh to Glasgow service was cancelled due to the trespassers, ScotRail confirmed this service was hit.

In an update shortly before 4:30pm, ScotRail confirmed the incident was over.

The train operator said: "Following trespassers on the railway earlier today between Dunbar and Drem, officers have attended and the person has now been taken to a place of safety. All lines have now reopened."

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Dunbar at around 3.30pm today (Thursday 24 June), following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman on the tracks.

"Officers attended and the woman was taken to a place of safety."
