Trailer for massive musical event at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena marking 50 years since moon landing is released

Nottingham is to host an out-of-this world musical event marking the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing this summer.

Interstellar is an ambitious project featuring a 50-piece orchestra, original NASA footage and special effects.

The show will be at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday, July 27.

The Secret Symphony’s Limelight Orchestra will be performing all the best known space-themed songs by ELO, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Coldplay, Muse, Simply Red, Kraftwerk and many others.

Giant screens will show the moment Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface on July 20, 1969.

“This is going to be an amazing event in an incredible location,” said Paul Brindley, of organisers Secret Symphony.

“We have been working on this for a long time and have put together an amazing musical event that people won’t forget. We’re over the moon with the results.

“The combination of the themed light show, 3D holograms, a 50-piece orchestra with vocalists and the huge scale of the arena will provide a fitting way of celebrating half a century since man made it to the moon.

“This will be one of the biggest musical nights in the Midlands this year.”

The Nottingham date is just one of five taking place in the UK - all in the Midlands region. Others are at cathedrals in Lichfield, Birmingham, Coventry and Lincoln.

“We’re very excited about all the Interstellar events,” said Paul, “but the Nottingham one feels extra special – because it’s by far the biggest venue and has the scale and acoustics to do the show justice.

"The Motorpoint Arena has seen some amazing acts over the years and some incredible light shows, but it has never have seen anything like this before – our 3D holograms have to be seen to be believed."

Tickets via See Tickets here are priced at £28.40 (includes admin fee) or from the venue box office (motorpointarenanottingham.com, 0843 373 3000).
