The answer to stopping is basically that there is no answer to stopping Steph Curry.
So when a reporter asked Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts whether he’d considered trapping Curry — because the Houston Rockets had some success with that tactic — Stotts basically drained a 30-foot three pointer on that reporter.
“Did they? I can’t remember. When he had 33 [points] in the second half, were they trapping him?” Stotts said on Tuesday night after the Golden State Warriors beat the Blazers, 116-94, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
Steph did, indeed, put up 33 in the second half of Game 6 against the Rockets, who were eliminated from the playoffs in that game, largely due to Curry’s strong finish.
“They were? And he scored 33 in the second half?” Stotts asked, obviously knowing the answer. “OK, yeah, we’ll look into that.”
Ice. Cold.
Curry was unstoppable on Tuesday night, with 36 points, seven assists, six rebounds and just one turnover. He shot 52 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the 3-point the line. It was probably his second-most dominant performance of these playoffs, coming in behind Game 1 against the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round.
