Trai Hume to Sunderland edges closer as Linfield teen prepares for move

Sunderland are closing in on a deal to sign Linfield’s teenage defender Trai Hume.

The 19-year-old is believed to have been at the Stadium of Light for the match against Sheffield Wednesday last week and the Black Cats have offered in the region of £200,000, reports the Mirror.

Hume has featured in 17 of the Blues’ 24 matches this season and produced three goals and two assists. He also played four times in the qualifying rounds of the Uefa Conference league.

The teenager has appeared five times for the Northern Ireland Under 21 side and Blues boss David Healy said last week: “Trai is only going to get better, he’s getting stronger, he’s getting fitter.

“If he can add a little bit more quality in the final third the sky’s the limit for him.”

Hume was on target for Linfield in Saturday's 6-1 demolition of Dungannon Swifts, in what appears to be his last game for the Blues.

That was his third goal of the season after scoring in successive Big Two derbies.
