Tragic young Scots driver dies in hospital days after horror Dumfries crash

A young driver has died in hospital one week after a horror crash in Dumfries.

Jay Burns, 20, died in hospital yesterday following the one vehicle crash, which took place on the A710 near to Southwick, around 9pm on Monday 25 January.

Two passengers who were in the car at the time suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

Mr Burns was gravely injured his grey Vauxhall Corsa left the road and crashed into a tree.

The road was closed for several hours as officers examined the scene.

Sergeant Jonny Edgar from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Jay's family at this sad time.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information that could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on the 101 number, quoting incident 3354 of 24 January.”
