Tragic Whitburn chef Jonathon Donaldson 'fell into river after night out'

Grieving loved ones of claim the young chef fell into a river on a night out.

The 26-year-old from Whitburn, West Lothian, was reported missing on November 11.

On Monday, police confirmed that a body had been found and that Jonathon's family were made aware.

One of Johnathon's heartbroken loved ones claims he passed away after falling into the River Almond.

Gary John posted a photograph with Johnathon, known as Johny, who was dubbed the 'life and soul of any party'.

He wrote: "My whole heart is broken.

"To lose someone so close to me and my family in such a tragic accident is something I’m never going to forget or even begin to wrap my head around, how cruel this world is.

"Johny Donaldson was making his way home after a wee drink and sadly slipped into the River Almond.

"It sadly impacted his life which is the most soul destroying thing ever because he was coming home.

"I will genuinely remember all the daft little memories, the silly stuff you used to got up to and the silly arguments we had.

"To the best steak maker I’ve ever met, the life and soul of any party and the biggest grump at times.

"I will truly miss you forever.

"I love you."

Friends commented in their droves paying tribute to the chef who was 'simply amazing'.

Abbie Gilchrist posted: "He will be sorely missed by every single person who had the pleasure of knowing him."

Connor Christison added: "I worked with him at Oscar's.

"He was never not smiling and always went out his way to help others."

Amy McKillop comented: "I worked with him at Oscar's, I was his manager.

"He would never let me walk home myself.

"I'm devastated.

"The guy simply was amazing and he will be missed."

We told how the sous chef had left his work at the The Oatridge Hotel in Uphall.

Officers confirmed that Jonathon, known as 'Johny' was last seen near the post office in Whitburn on the evening of November 11, after taking a number 600 bus.

A makeshift search party organised by family members was set up right before police made the grim discovery.

A Police Scotland spokesperson on Monday said: "Formal identification has yet to take place, but Jonathon’s family have been made aware.

"The public are thanked for their assistance during the search."
