Tragic teen Josh Dunne stabbed trying to break up row over bike theft

The tragic circumstances that led to the death of hero teen Josh Dunne are becoming more clear this evening.

It's understood that a row broke out after a bicycle was stolen in East Wall around 9pm on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after the alleged bike theft, some delivery cyclists became involved with a dispute with a man in his twenties on East Wall.

A number of teens from the city centre who were in the East Wall area then became involved in the row at around 9:20.

Josh is believed to have tried to break up the fight between the men and was stabbed along with another youngster, also 16.

The two teens were rushed to the nearby Mater Hospital, where Josh was sadly pronounced dead later that night.

The other youngster sustained a stab injury to the chest but is understood to be in a stable condition this evening.

Later in the evening, a man understood to be in his 20s who was also involved in the dispute presented at the Mater with serious injuries.

Josh was a popular young man from Ballymun who was a promising footballer.

He was an Academy player for professional north Dublin club Bohemian FC, which today released a moving tribute to the talented youngster.

A GoFundMe set up to help the hero teen's family to pay for his funeral has already raised more than €20,000.
