Man and woman dead after being hit by a car

A man and a woman have died after being hit by a car.

Police said they were called to Swan Lane, Wigan, just before 7pm on Monday, October 18 to reports of a crash.

PC Karl Horner from the Serious Collisions Investigations Unit said: "This was an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts go out their loved ones at this difficult time.

"Our officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this collision and we are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward."

Police hunt for wanted man after his release from prison

Kevin Robert Rutter, 30, from Wirral, wanted on recall to prison (Merseyside Police)

Police have released an image of a man they want to trace.

Officers are on the hunt for Kevin Robert Rutter, from Wirral, who served a sentence for burglary.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Please share and help us find Wirral man Kevin Robert Rutter, wanted on a recall to prison.

"Rutter, 30-years-old, breached his license conditions following his release after serving a sentence for burglary. He is now wanted."

Calls for action as fears mount over rising covid cases

Concerns have been raised over rising covid levels in Knowsley with one union saying action is 'urgently needed' before it is too late.

Knowsley UNISON has called on the council to 'not wait for the government' and instead implement additional safety measures before the 'situation worsens'.

Branch organiser Karen Greer said: "This should not come as a surprise to Knowsley as when the measures where relaxed, UNISON made clear that should the situation worsen as we approach the winter period that we would be asking for measures to be reintroduced."

In England, Covid restrictions were eased on July 19, however the UK Government is reportedly looking at options to tackle to rapid rise in Covid cases.
