Tragic policeman who died in jet ski accident was 'dedicated officer and father'

An off-duty police officer was killed in a thrill-seeking accident when he fell from a jet-ski.

Father-of-one Barry Davies, 50, was thrown from the high-powered vessel while jet-skiing in his hometown.

Emergency services plucked him from the water and conducted "extensive medical intervention" but tragic Barry could not be saved.

Experienced jet-skier Barry was described as a "dedicated officer and father" who "loved his job".

His devastated brother Nigel said: "Heartbroken is an understatement. RIP little brother. Until we meet again."

Nigel thanked Barry's fellow officers for their tributes - many of whom changed their Facebook profile pictures to a blue line.

He said: "He loved his job so much. Condolences to all his colleagues from us his family."

The tragedy happened in Barry's hometown of Pwllheli, North Wales, at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

Local MP Liz Saville Roberts described him as “a gentleman of an officer and a loss both to the force and the community”.

She said she knew him personally after he had called in her office during investigations following her receiving death threats.

A helicopter, coastguards and a lifeboat were called after a report that a man had fallen into the water.

“Despite extensive medical intervention the officer died at the scene,” North Wales Police said.

Carl Foulkes, Chief Constable of North Wales, said : “We are extremely sad to confirm the death of one of our police officers who died off-duty today, and our heartfelt sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues.”

Mark Jones, secretary of North Wales Police Federation said: “To lose a colleague is a very dark day for us all. Policing is a close knit family and tonight we mourn the passing of ‘one of our own’.

“Throughout the coming days and weeks we will be here to support the family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time and we express our heartfelt sympathies to all those involved.”

A week earlier a woman aboard a rib died near Menai Bridge, Anglesey, when there was a collision involving a jetski.

A North Wales Police spokesman said the officer's next of kin had been informed.
