Tragic Nadine Lott's memory will live on forever through heartbroken daughter Kya, funeral told

The six-year-old daughter of Nadine Lott was told she should never have had to bury her mother at a packed funeral mass on Sunday.

Fr Michael Murtagh told hundreds of mourners that he struggled to find the words to express the devastation for the 30-year-old’s “senseless” death.

Nadine lost her fight for life last Tuesday at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin after an alleged assault at her home in Arklow , Co Wicklow on Saturday December 14.

Daniel Murtagh, 32, from Clondalkin, Co Dublin remains in custody after he was arrested and charged with assault causing harm to the young mum.

He is due before Clover Hill District Court via video link on January 14.

In his powerful eulogy at St Mary’s and Peter’s church in Arklow, Fr Murtagh said the young mum will forever live on in her daughter Kya.

He said: “It’s not supposed to be like this. Words are inadequate, nothing can take away the loss suffered.

“A young six year old child should not be burying her young mother.

“A mother and father are not supposed to be burying their daughter.

“Nadine fought so bravely until her fight for life ended last Tuesday.

“Kya we promise our lives and souls will not become casualties. Nadine will live on in her daughter Kya.”

Fr Murtagh said Arklow had been dealt “a blow” which had drained strength and left everyone in shock over the “senseless” death of Nadine who was “intelligent, caring and full of fun.”

Hundreds of people lined the streets to outside of the packed church an hour before Nadine’s white coffin arrived to the tune of ‘A Million Dreams,’ - a soundtrack from The Greatest Showman movie.

A webcam broadcasting a live stream of the funeral was set up in the nearby parish centre for those who were unable to get inside the church doors.

Nadine’s sister’s Phoebe and Tanith remember their sister’s “sparkling smile” and told mourners their hearts also stopped the day their sister died.

While Nadine’s mother Claire tearfully told the congregation that her daughter “was truly stunningly beautiful inside and out.”

She said: “My darling daughter I’ve always been so proud to be your mother.

“You were an amazing mother first and foremost and an incredible sister and daughter. An extraordinary woman.

“Her baby Kya who is a big girl now has her very own guardian angel.

“Mammy will always love you and will never leave your side.”

Nadine’s father David, sisters and brother Kyle carried items up to the altar which represented the young woman.

A make-up bag, a framed picture of Nadine with her daughter described as “her greatest achievement in life” and a pair of nude high heels were placed on the altar.

Along with a photo album gifted to Nadine by her friends for her 30th birthday in October.

Claire said: “My daughter taught me to cherish life. Her words when trying to take the perfect picture were ‘memories Mum, we’re making memories.’

“She had a love and passion for life. She was always the child centre of the group making everyone laugh.

“Nadine we will miss and love you forever my darling.”
