Tragic mum Ann Drummond 'hit on head and driven to farm' before car set alight

Family and friends have paid tribute to the tragic mum who died after being burned in a flaming car.

Ann Drummond was found rolling around screaming for help in a field in Bathgate on Tuesday night.

The 47-year-old, who is believed to have four children, had suffered a serious head injury.

A man, also aged 47, was also found with burns and is currently in a serious condition in Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary.

A police source said: “She was hit in the head before being driven to the farm and the car set alight.”

Police have confirmed they are treating her death as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.

The alarm was raised after a farm worker spotted the car burning in a field next to Drumcross Farm in the Bathgate hills. Detectives are still trying to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Ann, from Livingston, passed away a short time after arriving at hospital.

Her son, Jake Smart, posted a picture of Ann on Facebook and said: “My beautiful mum.”

A family friend said: “It’s a tragedy. My daughter is friends with her son. They are all devastated.” A shocked friend, who asked not to be named, said: “She was close to her kids and loved her dogs.

“This is just terrible. Nobody deserves to die like that.”

A police source said: “Officers are waiting to talk to the man. He is still receiving treatment in hospital.”

It is understood police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in West Lothian can now confirm the identity of a woman who died in the Bathgate area.

“She was Ann Drummond from Livingston.

“The 47-year-old was found alongside a 47-year-old man, having both sustained significant burn injuries near Drumcross Farm on Tuesday, June 25. Ann sadly passed away in hospital on Thursday, June 27, while the man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

“Her death is being treated as suspicious and inquiries into this matter are continuing”

A man at the family home in Livingston said they did not wish to comment.
